Government rejects Stack Solution

The Government has once again blocked plans to alleviate local transport problems caused by Operation Stack. The £13 million plan fo a moveable barrier has been blocked by the Highways Agency, which wishes to continue talking to Kent County Council instead.

KCC Cabinet member for transport Cllr Keith Ferrin (Conservative) has written to the Transport Minister Dr Stephen Ladyman MP (Thanet South, Labour) urging that a solution to the continued debacle caused by the scheme should be a top priority.

Cllr Ferrin said: "In addition to the many lorries caught up in it, Operation Stack continues to cause immense suffering to Kent residents, business people and visitors alike. The Government must find an alternative now."
