Creatives kept in check

The Creative Foundation's plans for the Old High Street were kept in check by the Development Control Committee of Shepway District Council this evening, as proposals to install banner signs on 52 the Old High Street were deferred, pending details of signage. The Foundation had wanted permission to be granted prior to the agreement of details, thus giving Carte Blanche in their choice of designs in the Conservation Area. Folkestone Town Council had already succeeded in reducing the number of signs from three to one, and getting the proposed internally illuminated plastic sign removed from the proposals altogether.

Shepway's councillors were in the mood for a fight this evening, also rejecting proposals in Harbour Way, Hythe and on Romney Marsh, as well as arguing with officers and Kent Highways officials over parking and site accessibility.
