Yet another Takeaway for Cheriton?

An application has been submitted to convert yet another shop in Cheriton into a Chinese Takeaway. I am totally opposed to this further reduction of retail space in Cheriton, which is the most vibrant local shopping centre in the area. Local traders have fought to overcome adverse conditions and competition from supermarkets, and remain a crucial part of the local community.

I have objected to the Planning Department, pointing out that the local plan limits the amount of space permitted for use by Takeaways and Restaurants and protects the viability of Cheriton as a shopping sub-centre.

Cheriton By-Election

The date for the Cheriton By-Election to elect a representative on the Town Council has been set for 23rd March. The vacancy arose as a result of Cllr Richard Jenner (Conservative) moving away from the area to care for his mother. It seems likely that there will be at least 4 candidates for the seat.
