Folkestone Sea Front

Last night, Shepway's Development Control Committee voted to grant permission to Trent Developments to build a mix residential and leisure development on Folkestone's sea front. I have grave misgivings about the overall design of the structure - the 14 storey tower block looks to me like a high rise Shanty Town - but welcome the proposed leisure facilities. A 6 screen multiplex cinema, ten-pin bowling and purpose-built nightclub to replace the current, rather inappropriate building would be a welcome addition to the town.

How the scheme will affect Roger De Haan's plans for the harbour, Tontine Street and the rest of the town generally remains to be seen. We can only hope that his grand plans will not be scuppered by the green light to this development.
