Seafront Development

Folkestone Town Council has now formally objected to Trent Developments' proposals for the seafront. I believe that this was the right decision, as this prime development site lies between the picturesque harbour and the stunning Leas and Coastal Park. This exceptionsl site demands an exceptional development which could turn this into the most magnificent urban coastline in Britain and put Folkestone back at the top of the tree of seaside resorts.

Unfortunately, the proposals are for nothing short of a high-rise shanty town. The metal is designed to rust, and the wood panelling is designed to decay. Folkestone's front window should not be turned into a glorified scrapyard. We lie at the centre of the wealthiest part of Europe and surely deserve better.

The site should be redeveloped with a misture of leisure and residential property as planned, and modern architecture would not be out of place on this site, but this prime development site deserves buildings as magnificent as our coastline.
